Why
项目初衷
Most of us have recorded something dozens of times before feeling allowed to share it. A cracked note, an awkward pause, a slightly off frame — and the whole take is discarded. Imperfect Voice started from the observation that this habit is not personal insecurity alone, but a social rule: only polished output seems entitled to an audience.
很多人录了无数遍才敢发出一首歌；一个走音就让整段录音作废。项目发起的起点是意识到：这不只是个人的不自信，而是一条被默认的社会规则——似乎只有经过修饰的成果才配被听见。项目希望把这条规则摆到台面上讨论。

Goal 01
Make raw expression visible — collect and publish unedited voices and images so that “unfinished” work has a legitimate place to exist.
让未经修饰的表达被看见：收集并发布原生声音与影像，为“不完美”的作品保留正当的展示位置。
Goal 02
Build a supportive community — create a space where participants can share without fear of being judged on technical polish.

Examine the standard itself — use field research to ask where the definition of “perfect” comes from and what it costs people.

How
项目开展过程 · Process
Phase 01
Inception发起
The project began as a personal question: why does a single imperfect note make us delete an entire recording? Imperfect Voice was set up as an open invitation rather than a competition.
Phase 02
Open call for participants征集参与者
An open call was published to classmates, community members and online acquaintances, asking for one raw take — a song, a voice memo, a spoken memory — submitted without editing.
Phase 03
Recording and documenting拍摄记录
Contributions were recorded on phones and simple equipment on purpose. A parallel documentary photo series captured the moments around the recordings, unposed and unlit.
Phase 04
Field research田野调查
Interviews and questionnaires were conducted to examine where the standard of “perfect” comes from, how it is enforced socially, and what people give up because of it.
Phase 05
Community and publication社群运营与发布
An open forum was created for participants and readers to continue the conversation, and the collected material was organised into this hub for public reading.
